Bešenovo Monastery
Bešenovo Monastery (virtual tour of Fruška Gora monasteries)
Time of construction: according to testimony, the end of the 13th or the middle of the 15th century.
Founder: according to testimony, the Bešenovo monastery was built by the Serbian king Dragutin.
First written mention: 1467 (record on the wall when the church was painted), and then 1546 in the Turkish cadastral register.
The church is dedicated to: Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel (November 8/21).
Years of destruction: Bešenovo Monastery was completely devastated in the Second World War and immediately after the war.
Years of renewal: not renewed to this date.
Iconostasis: old, built in 1753 and restored in 1770 with icons by Vasilij Romanovich, replaced in 1907-1909. the new one, for which Stevan Aleksić worked as an icon.
Painting/frescoes: 1467 was written on the church wall as the year of painting, but the author is unknown.
Holy relics: the relics of Saints Kirikos and Julita were kept here.
Today: The renovation of Bešenovo is now in full swing, and till this date the temple, lodgings, auxiliary building, garage, workshop, cellar for provisions and a new belfry have been built, which can be seen if you visit the virtual tour of Fruška Gora monasteries.
