Sveti Marko Monastery

Sveti Marko Monastery (virtual tour of Fruška Gora monasteries)

Time of construction: the small chapel, near the “vodica” in the atar of Novi Karlovci, was built by parish priest Aleksandar Jovanović in 1883, “in honor of God”, “his eternal life” and that of his wife Jelisaveta, who died on March 18, 1883.

The church is dedicated to Saint Mark the Evangelist and Apostle.

Years of restoration: over time, this Polish place of worship has literally become overgrown with weeds and undergrowth. The long process of its revitalization began in August 2006, when the spouses Djoko and Persida Obradov moved here. On December 7, 2007, she was entrusted to the care of the Serbian Orthodox Church Municipality in Inđija.

Iconostasis: the woodcut was made by Rajko Kušlaković, and it was painted by Archimandrite Timotej (Kosanović).

Today: the old “vodica” was turned into a women’s monastery by His Grace the Bishop of Srem, Mr. Vasilije, on January 3, 2011.

Until now, the temple has been thoroughly renovated, a lodge and a corresponding fountain have been built above Mark’s spring, which are surrounded by a solid brick fence. It can be visited on the page of our internet portal if you visit the virtual tour of Fruška Gora monasteries.

Patron’s Day: Holy Apostle and Evangelist Mark (May 8)

Superior: Hieromonk Damaskin Totić
