Beočin Monastery
Beočin Monastery (virtual tour of Fruška Gora monasteries)
Time of construction: not known for sure, around the 16th century
The church is dedicated to the feast of the Ascension of Christ
Years of destruction: most likely, the monastery was destroyed during the Austro-Turkish wars of 1683-1695.
The years of restoration: in 1697, the monks returned during the time of Patriarch Arsenio III Čarnojević; it was also renovated during 1708, 1732-1740, 1760-1799, a major renovation in 1893, when it got its present appearance, in 1905 and for the last time in 1987.
Architecture: is the product of specific combinations of several stylistic forms
Iconostasis: it was painted in 1756-1766. Janko Halkozović, Dimitrije Bačević and Teodor Dimitrijević Kračun. The thrones were completed in 1791 and are the work of Aksenti Marković from Dubrovnik.
Painting/frescoes: it was done in 1768-1777. The choirs were painted by Georgije Zograf, and on the west wall above the entrance to the church there is a wall painting by Janko Halkozović.
Treasury: looted during the Second World War, partially returned to the museum of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
Today: the monastery complex consists of the church, the south and west wing of the inn and the enclosure walls on the north and east sides.
