Berkasovo monastery
Berkasovo Monastery (virtual tour of Fruška Gora monasteries)
Time of construction: Berkasovo monastery was founded on a spring dedicated to Saint Petka, on the site of a more modest, wooden temple from 1867, which burned down at the beginning of the 20th century.
The church is dedicated to the Venerable Paraskeva Trnova.
Years of destruction: the original wooden temple burned down at the beginning of the 20th century.
Years of restoration: at the beginning of the 20th century, on the site of the burning of the aforementioned log cabin, the present chapel “on the water” was built, with an iconostasis by a self-taught artist from Bačka Palanka. It was renovated by the brothers Boško and Branko Mitrović in 1998. The biggest renovation began in 2008, when the first nuns arrived in this sanctuary.
Iconostasis: The old, damaged iconostasis was removed and donated to the parish in Sot. The construction of the new partition was entrusted to Dragan and Stevan Šaponja from Sombor.
Today: the complex consists of a church, lodgings on all four sides and economic buildings.
Patron’s day: Venerable Mother Paraskeva
Mother Superior: Abbess Anisija Crcoroska
