Fenek Monastery

Fenek Monastery (virtual tour of Fruška Gora monasteries)

Time of construction: the first reliable mention comes from 1563, its founder is unknown, as well as the time of creation.

Founder: according to testimony, Stefan and Angelina Branković.

The church is dedicated to the Venerable Martyr Paraskeva (July 26/August 8).

Years of destruction: the Fenek monastery suffered several large-scale destructions, especially during the world wars

Years of renovation: The old Fenech church was renovated in 1771. The construction of the new church began in 1797. It was finally completed on July 26, 1797, when it was blessed by Metropolitan Stefan Stratimirović. Today’s chapel of Saint Petka was built in 1800 on the site of the old monastery chapel.

Architecture: the original Fenech church was built in the spirit of the tradition of Serbian medieval architecture; the current church is a typical baroque sacral building, which can be immediately seen in detail if you visit the virtual tour of the Fruška Gora monasteries.

Iconostasis: was carved by woodcarver Aksentije Marković from Novi Sad in 1798, and painted by Petar Radosavljević from Pančević in 1818-1820. He died in the First World War when the lower zone of the iconostasis, the imperial and side doors and the cross were destroyed – an extraordinary woodcarving.

Painting/frescoes: the church was painted in 1859 by painter from Zemun Dimitrije Petrović.

Today: the complex consists of a church with a bell tower, lodgings on three sides and a small chapel built outside the lodgings, south of the church, a virtual tour of the Fruška Gora monasteries is recommended, at the bottom of the page).
