Grabovo Monastery
Grabovo Monastery (virtual tour of Fruška Gora monasteries)
Time of construction: it was built as a parish church in the second half of the 18th century.
The church is dedicated to the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel.
Years of destruction: while it served as a parish temple, this sanctuary was in a traditionally “bad condition” for more than a hundred years, as it was characterized in Kosovac’s description from the beginning of the 20th century. The peak of the deterioration of this building occurred on January 21, 2009, when the dilapidated bell tower suddenly collapsed.
Years of restoration: the partial restoration of its exterior was carried out in 1971, the badly damaged roof was repaired in 2001, and its biggest restoration was initiated in 2009, and especially after 2016, when His Grace the Bishop of Srem, Mr. Vasilije, declared the parish church in Grabovac a monastery of the monastic family in Krušedol.
Iconostasis: the carving of the iconostasis partition was carved by Sava Ljubinković and painted by Pavle Čortanović in 1875.
Today: due to the desire for the inhabitants of this modest and isolated village to have a worthy place of worship, His Grace the Bishop of Srem Mr. Vasilije declared the Grabovac parish church a monastery on June 14, 2016 and then entrusted it to the care of Krušedol Archimandrite Sava Jovančević, thereby initiating an impressive renovation and the construction of a sanctuary with a gathered monastic family. It can be visited on the page of our internet portal if you visit the virtual tour of Fruška Gora monasteries.
