Privina Glava Monastery

Time of construction: Privina glava monastery was founded in the 12th century, and rebuilt in 1496, while some data place the origin of this monastic family in the first half of the 16th century.

Founder: according to testimony, it was the endowment of a certain Priba from the 12th century, and in 1496 it was restored by Maksim and Jovan Branković.

The church is dedicated to the Council of the Holy Archstrategs (July 13/26).

Years of destruction: demolished in 1688 in the Austro-Turkish war. The monks then left the monastery and returned only in 1696. During the Second World War, the monks were expelled, but the buildings were not damaged.

Years of restoration: in 1699, the monks build a small church. The construction of the present church began in 1741 and was completed in 1760. The painting was restored in 1829. The fundamental renovation and repairs continued throughout the 18th century, but the appearance of the monastery complex did not change. The church was repaired in 1951–1956, and the inn was renovated in 1987. The large-scale construction of the current monastery complex took place in recent decades.

Architecture: based on traditional architectural solutions with a strong baroque influence.

Iconostasis: painted in 1785 by Andrej Šaltist. The high altar partition with Rococo carving is the work of an unknown sculptor from Dubrovnik.

Painting/frescoes: The interior of the church was painted in 1791 by Kuzman Kolarić.

Treasury: During the Second World War looted; after the war, the objects were returned to the Patriarchate in Belgrade. Today it is part of the treasury in the monastery.

Today: the complex consists of churches, two wings of the inn and economic buildings. The monastery gate is closed by a wall on the north and west sides. It can be visited if you visit the page where there is a virtual tour of the Fruška Gora monasteries.
